Alternately, they could sold instead of given to attendees. Get an idea
of how many people are interested in buying one and then order slightly
fewer. Or set up an übercart shop and pre-sell them (for pickup at the
event).
Then
a) there's less likelihood of getting stuck with unsold shirts.
b) if the shirts get sold out then there's an instant collectors' item.
c) t-shirts move from an expense to a potential source of revenue (50
shirts @ $10 profit is the equivalent of one sponsor)
