[DUG-TO] wordpress

I'd love to see a deeper comparison - great idea James. I'm hearing good
things about WP, and there's lots to love about Drupal, and it'll be good to
see where the features/sustainabiliy line falls. I also like Ning as a user,
and would like an alternative to it given the recent hoopla. So bring on the
smackdown! Ringside seats please!

definitely interested...sounds like fun...
i agree with the current breakdown, however, wordpress has come a very
long way, there are some very robust distros, more than justa simple site,
you haev buddypress and and wordpressmu which allow for multi leverl multi
user sites and profiles, simmillar to stuff like ning, you haev wpcart for
e-comm, adn so on...
so, i think a smackdown is order, could be lots of fun....we should get a
boxing ring?

I mostly agree with Jane's sentiment. Wordpress works best as a single
user system - i.e. a blog or "simple" website. That said, Wordpress is
certainly growing with each release to approach a more general CMS.
Drupal is still much more flexible & powerful - but that typically comes
with the implementation cost (time) that we're all familiar with (or getting
to know! ;-)
It's long been my dream that there were more collaboration / partnership
between the two communities, but that doesn't look to be on the immediate
horizon. But for now, Wordpress for small and simple - Drupal for bigger
more complex is a decent breakdown.
This does make me think, though, that it might be fun to have an event/
presentation/something that compared the two. I've gotten to know Brendan
Sera-Shriar (who runs WordCampToronto) fairly well... perhaps we could do a
compare and contract, "smackdown" if folks would be interested.
Brendan - interested?

I think wordpress is great for small or simple websites that does not
require the staff to have technical knowledge to update the site. Drupal is
more of a platform to develop custom applications for companies or
organizations. My opinion is that wordpress is easier to install and update,
but it does not offer the same flexibility to customize that you can get
from Drupal. Drupal has a wider variety of contributed modules to choose
from and a stronger support network of developers.
So, for basic websites, wordpress is going to be a better solution,
but Drupal will offer more scalability.
just my two cents.

Has anyone tried wordpress? How does it compare with drupal,
especially wrt the number & ease of installing updates? I'm thinking of
trying it for basic sites, maybe even with paypal donations.
