Evan,
You might want to consider other places and ways to construct the url
besides a hard link in the menu system. Back in 4.7 I remember doing PHP
snippets that would pull information out of nodes / attached taxonomy terms
/ current user and then construct either urls or other things with them.
This can either be done by dynamically generating some stuff on the block /
page that is providing the link (assuming the menu for this was a standalone
one not tied into, say, Primary links for main navigation) or on an interim
landing page (if the link is based on current user). Alternatively, you
could use a hook to create menu items at the time an author and/or report is
created / modified in the system.
