Can you point us to a Date issue at drupal.org for that? I can't find one and was about to update, after much preparation.

There are significant changes with Date-2.x and later, that may require re-editing/saving views (including Calendar views) and date fields for existing node types (re: Date project page, Troubleshooting section [http://drupal.org/project/date]), which can be a huge hassle for an established site. Definitely you'd want to test and practice the upgrade on a test site with your database! But I don't believe that has anything to do with Drupal 6.10 vs. 6.11, or Date-2.x-dev, just Date-1.x to Date-2.x. If you can point me to a relevant issue discussion I'd be grateful.
