Good evening,
A brand that has little exposure in North America is Fujitsu. I provided tech support for Fujitsu for three years and would say that at that time (5 years ago) they had excellent products. Most brands have entry, mid and high range products. When I was at Fujitsu I think we had at most two models that I would consider to be in the low range for quality. Support used to be in Ontario, I understand that since I left support has moved outside of North America. I would strongly consider a Fujitsu if I were buying anything other than a Mac. But, I wouldn't buy anything other than a Mac :)
For the past year I've used a Macbook Aluminium and it is wonderful. I run Snow Leopard with XP running in a virtual machine all day long, there is no appreciable performance lag running the two OSs simultaneously, of course I am running with 4GB RAM, which is pretty inexpensive these days. Even when I fire up a third OS (linux) there is no significant performance lag, although I can definitely tell that I'm asking my Mac to do a little more than it was designed for..

I'm disappointed with my Acer, but my old IBM was great. I need a high end one for video editing. Looking at an Intel i7-720 quad core.
