Calvin,

You are correct about the theme being used in ways we can't predict.
However, to start with, we need to have an idea of what our theme is meant
to facilitate, if only to concentrate our efforts. Whether we subtheme zen
or NineSity is an implementation detail and can be adapted to whatever
limited goals we define at this time.

I have no problem using CSS3. It could be a fun and educational exercise as
well as contributing to the community.

One design consideration is whether this is to be a liquid theme, or more
limited. Also, I believe that it would be a worthwhile goal to develop a
theme that degrades gracefully such as when window is made too narrow or
elements can't fit constraints inherent in the design.

Another possible goal is to develop a generic solution using CSS3 for things
such as tables, block layouts, etc.
